EDIT: All of the photos were linked from the web. I assume it would go quicker had I uploaded them?

You're remarkably patient. My guess is that there's something wrong with one or more of the links. When I put a photo link into the editor, if it doesn't preview in the editor I assume that a hotlink won't work and I go ahead and download the picture to my computer then re-upload to Kinja. Annoying for large posts, but my experience is that it's safer. Your mileage may vary.

I ended up saving the images and uploading them, but I'm having the same issue.

Hmmm. How many? How big? There might be a limit on file size for upload and linking, but I don't know what it could be. If you have Photoshop, you might try reducing some of the larger ones, in file size if not pixels. Good luck.
